stonelifter,

re: “just seems a dark view to believe we have no choice in our own views of the world.”

As I asked Joker in reply #16 (who has yet to comply BTW), perhaps you could demonstrate your ability by consciously CHOOSING to believe that leprechauns exist by doing as suggested in that post.

Sir... if you can prove to me that God doesnt exist then i will be happy to take you up on the leprechaun assertion. If you know absolutely that God does not exist then my trusting in leprechauns is a valid argument.

During the Medieval Period when people lived in small villages and had limited ability to travel more than 30-40 miles from their place of birth, the Roman Catholic Church was not just a religion--it was also the government. Requiring people to confess every sin to the local priest gave him incredible social power through the knowledge that he alone would possess. Because people generally lived in small, heterogeneous groups it would have been difficult to lie about your actions, especially if others were spilling the beans to the priest.

In areas controlled by the RCC there was no alternative to "going along" else one be excommunicated. That was a big deal then because excommunication meant you became an outcast and shunned. Moving somewhere else was not easy because the fiefdoms of that period were closed societies and resistant to outsiders.

So in other words, the practice of confession to a priest was created as a means of political control.

Katie’s been uncaged!

Tom Cruise’s soon-to-be-former wife, Katie Holmes, was spotted today strolling through New York.
Although Holmes was flanked by security guards, according to TMZ, she had the look of a woman free from the burden of her unhappy marriage.
Holmes, who even sported a smile, finally pulled the trigger on divorcing Cruise last week, reportedly in fear that the “Top Gun” actor would ship their 6-year-old daughter Suri to Scientology's hardcore elite Sea Organization, sources said.
Cruise's desire to send Suri to Sea Org, as its known within Scientology, was the last straw for Holmes in her decision to split from the "Mission Impossible" star, according to TMZ

WIREIMAGE
Tom Cruise, Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes in Pittsburgh on October 8, 2011.
"Kids as young as five can be sent to live [at Sea Org] ... without their parents," the Web site reported.
Sea Org members sign billion-year contracts to work for the organization, and get room and board to permanently live at a Scientology base for reported salaries of up to just $50 per week.
The group gets its name because members initially worked on a Scientology ship, but they've since branched out to different headquarters, including Scientology's Gold Base in California.
TMZ further reports that Holmes, "has first-hand knowledge of the Sea Org. When Holmes and Cruise first hooked up in 2005, Jessica Feshbach, a prominent Scientologist who had been with the Sea Org since 1994, was transferred and became Katie's assistant/Scientology chaperone.
“Feshbach, in one of Katie's first interviews after getting together with Cruise, was described by a writer for W magazine as 'cold-eyed' and 'a third-wheel.' "
Holmes' feared that Cruise planned to ship their daughter off to the bizarre order, and felt divorce was the only option, the site says.
This comes as Holmes fears she can’t take one step without a Scientology goon following her every move in a heavy- handed intimidation attempt, multiple sources close to the actress told The Post yesterday.
The pretty actress last night was holed up in her Chelsea pad — terrified that Cruise might kidnap their little girl, law-enforcement sources said.
Holmes told another building resident of her abduction fear — and that neighbor called police on Friday, sources said.
But without Holmes phoning in the report herself — and Cruise known to be 2,600 miles away shooting a movie in Iceland — police couldn’t take any action.
Managers at Holmes’ plush Seventh Avenue building, though, have been put on alert for Cruise or any strangers who might want to get inside, the sources said.
Holmes, who filed for divorce from superstar Scientologist actor Cruise last week, knew this was coming, the sources said.
“Katie saw all the pressure. They [Scientologists] are professionals at pressuring people to be quiet,” said a friend of the actress after her bombshell divorce filing in Manhattan last week. “That’s why she did this [filed for divorce] in secret.”
A team of beefy armed men parked themselves in a white Cadillac Escalade outside Holmes’ place all day yesterday, snapping pictures of people outside the building and demanding to know who they were.
Cops finally pulled up in a marked NYPD squad car behind the SUV and checked out its Tennessee license plates. The officers said they were acting on complaints of “suspicious activity in a white Escalade” but did not elaborate.
They spent about 15 minutes eyeing the SUV before leaving. At least two of the five men sitting in the SUV were clearly packing heat. When asked who they worked for, one wisecracked: “We’re waiting for a bus.”
In the latest issue if the National Enquirer, which hit newsstands today, Holmes is said to have ended her marriage because she could not longer tolerate Cruise's beliefs.
"For the sake of their daughter, she made the painful choice to end their marriage. It was the biggest decision of her life," said an insider.
During an ugly confrontation, Cruise blasted Holmes for the way she was raising Suri, but souces said she shot back that the actor didn't spend enough time with both of them.
"The tension between them exploded after that exchange," a Holmes family insider told The Enquirer. "He blamed Katie for being far too permissive as a parent. He also said that he wasn't happy with Suri wearing lipstick and nail polish."

This is the kind of thing that happens to people who just assume that leadership is free to snoop into a persons life without a real relationship of encouragement and positive reinforcement. The bible does not support this kind of dependence as being part of the unity of the church.

Any time you have an abuse of authority to more or lesser of an extent .. or putting in rules before a leader goes this far.. yet it looks like this as a personality. This is an example of mans authority expressed in the book of Revelation. Whether religious or government.

The Psalms deal with human weakness and they do not leave any situation we might find ourselves in that we find the experience the Psalmist is in. What we need to understand is that fear of evil is just as bad as getting into a situation where we know the sins are more than the numbers of our hairs and must conclude they over took us and yet they are atoned for.
And this happens to us in this world. We find ourselves enjoying ourselves a little too much. But if we were to try to control everything like a self righteous man then we would never get to the point were we allowed ourselves to enjoy ourselves in the company of the wicked and find that the sin had over taken us. Ive prayed this prayer a number of times and enjoyed His smile after i enjoy the party too much. Ive never been drunk or stoned but ive seen people like this. But there is nothing to fear about being happy and enjoying yourself. God atones for the sin.

LA People take that verse out of context. The verse says if 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart,
    the Lord would not have listened;
19 but God has surely listened
    and has heard my prayer.
20 Praise be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer
or withheld his love from me!

The Psalmist describes the wicked man as one who does not call on God. This wicked man does not think about God. So the wicked man cherishes sin in his heart because the only remedy for sin is calling on the name of the Lord. In another place the Psalmist says about his sins that they are more than the number of his hairs and that sin has overtaken him and because of this his heart fails within him. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions .So in the Psalms we make a distinction between the reaction of  the wicked man and the reaction of the righteous man.

Because this verse is the only one in the Psalms that seems to say that sin is not fully taken care of in the atonement we need to look at other reasons for him reasoning like this. And this is a poetic figure of speech. What he is saying here is the opposite. He is using the awful state of alienation to God like a prayer less wicked man who cherishes sin. The Psalms make a distinction not about each sin but between pride and humility. And this distinction is talking about a course that one takes. So here he is poetically talking to himself and consoling himself that the Lord hears his cries because he does not regard iniquity in his heart because he calls on God. So he is saying if i regard iniquity .. then he says but i called to You and thank God You heard my prayer. Where as the wicked man has no where to take his sin. This shows the difference between hope and hopelessness. If someone where to use this verse to conclude that a christian could not be accepted on the basis of Christ work then it would be like cursing them.

See now this is two line theology. Learn to accept the things you cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference. The scripture says to pray without ceasing. So the Psalmist in talking about prayer says that he actually made himself sick seeking God. From calling out to God he complained of his parched throat. He had irritated his throat and was worn out. lol

In another place he says that he was frail and had lost enough weight that he had become weak physically. Over and over again he talks about seeking God nite and day, in the morning and evening, when he wakes up he is meditating on Gods word. Over and over again he talks about calling to God. But the psalmist does not just ask for things or plead with God to get him out of a situation. Rather the psalmist had learn how to go before God like a prosecutor. But God also had taught him to learn how to be a defender as well.

So prayer is not trying to act before God. Or trying to create our little religious kingdom or political one. But prayer is aligning ourselves with Gods will and learning how to use the talents we have in an artistic way to argue our case. lol And prayer is not only getting answers from God but it is the answer. So prayer is spreading our blessing and cursing before God. Or its filling our mouths with prosecuting pleas and defensive language. lol

The old reformers used to call this pleading the promises of God. Now i am saying that it could be historically inaccurate to assert that prayer is just a positive affirmation of all that God has promised. In other words the curses no longer matter.  But this in my opinion  a miss understanding of the proper balance between our humanity and our spirituality. I believe that Jews had a better understanding of the depth of the human nature. Like it is said ...gentiles have divided the ot from the nt and we throw each other under the bus so to speak. lol

But prayer is coming before God with a concern for abuse and hateful situations. God is concerned foremost with our well being. If we just accept a low standard of respect then we will be treated and accept that. But prayer is standing against our enemies and in prayer we are striving to overcome all opposition. This is the old reformers way of saying that we are to die with this confession on our lips. Prayer is wrestling with God and triumphing.

Its same principle with picking your mate. You got to go through a lot of frogs to get to the prince. This is the principle here. God has made it so that we resist to blood. He has said that even the bad situations, the bad people , the evil self images from peoples description of us that we are forced to endure are only stepping stones to something that is to wonderful for us to imagine.

I have a lot of experience with this. Those situations we are in and those satanic trials we endure only last for a moment in our lives. And we come across that after we have wrestled with God for many years and we have overcome it. The bible talks about a soldier who is in the enemy camp and has been taken captive who longs to stand over that enemy and gloat. This is what it means to triumph. Its wrestling with God until we pin the enemy. But this is not your average praying. lol. This is a learned art. I am talking about years of wrestling with spiritual blood and physical sweat and tears.

Its just like a soldier who goes through long hours of training and he has a history of war and fighting. So he begins to be trusted like a general or an army commander . This man knows how to argue before the throne. This man has many examples of overcoming. lol And so the prayer of the righteous man avails much. The righteous man looks ineffective and weak but in the spiritual realm the man is extremely dangerous.  Because the man has a vision of what it looks like to see God. This person wants the world. lol

To not pray is to show a lack of confidence in God. Its is also to be unbelieving in that we can depend upon our own strength to get us through. The bible gives us a reason from Gods perspective so that prayer and hope are almost the same. God must deal with us through a relationship just like we have relationships in the physical realm. But the vertical relationship defines who we are in these horizontal relationships. God has made it so that if our vertical relationship is not full of life then we will not enjoy to the fullest the gifts he has given to those who are in our own sphere of influence.

So God has made a fail safe way for us to be assured of who we are in this life .. understanding our purpose and being assured that He will do in us according to His promises until the end. God provides the basis of this relationship through covenant. God comes to us by giving Himself fully through the covenant of grace. Could you imagine having all the answers, all the power, and all the hope of a future that is too wonderful for you to understand and yet not know and experience all that God has promised in His covenant?

Why is it that God who knows every detail of our lives from the beginning to the end wants us to pray? Because prayer really is for us. And its a gift for us by God promising to always hear us when we ask. Because God always provides us not only with the basis of our being confident in our purpose in this world but in showing us the way of success is through grace. He has made it so that all that we have and all that we do is gifted to us by Him declaring that His word is yea and amen because there is nothing that we can do except ask.

Our motives in asking are all from His promises to give us what we need. So our relationship with God is through this fellowship of asking and the basis of our asking is God saving us by His eternal word. We hear Gods call in salvation which really is all that we need as motives to experience freedom and grace. In this word of salvation is our understanding that we are happiest when we are fully dependent upon God for everything. God does not just promise to do something for us in the future but He gives us a guarantee that He already has provided everything for us in His covenant through His grace by His love. So the basis of our assurance of freedom is His grace.

Grace is God providing all that we need in this life. But to access it all that He ask us to do is to ask Him for it. Because God is not a thing but He is a person. And the problems in the relationship do not originate from His side of the relationship. Its our lack of assurance , our lack of understanding, our lack of trust that is the problem. So God understood this because He made us. This is why He not only had to promise us all of these gifts but He had to provide the success of our being assured that they are ours. lol How does He do this? He proves Himself faithful when we are not.. loving when we are not.. kind when we are not.. long suffering when we succumb to the trials of this life. God not only has gifted us with all that we need but He has to love us with an unfailing love. All of this is His word of salvation that provides us with the confidence to ask and that assures us that we cannot fail by simply asking.

We also have experience. And we can distinguish by experience. You know when the Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost they were all in one Spirit. But there was a reaction by the multitudes about this event. They saw the evidence of the Holy Spirit on those people. And you go farther in the account and Peter was convinced that the people in Jerusalem about the converts in Joppa saying that the Holy Spirit had done" a work in them as He had on us at the beginning." In another place it was said that the Holy Spirit fell on them and they "spoke the word of God boldly."

This kind of testing is very important. Ive seen situations where you just fall in line as if the church was like a catholic church. The main purpose for going was to get the cup. Its very easy to fall into a pattern of lukewarmness. You are involved in the culture of worship and you just assume this is the real thing. Because your just looking at the knowledge side of it in a purely intellectual consent without experiencing God. You know i remember in the 70s  that older generation had a better balance of this knowledge and experience. I really believe that evolution has been the corrupting factor as to how we talk about worship in this day.

But if you have never experienced worship in a more pure way. That being more unity in the body by orthodox confession with a balance of seeking God for God and not for acceptance through the means and the creeds then how can you form an opinion without the experience in comparing? Do you just accept the fact that people will talk like Catholics and that is the standard? You just practice this kind of imaginative form of will worship? Or do you seek to worship in the right epistemology of making experience a vital part of worship? And so our judgments about leprechauns are through our experience.

People create leprechauns all the time. God has made us artistically inclined. We have imaginations. I dont think we should be afraid of imaginations but they should be used to glorify God. So imaginations can be used either for good or for evil. But they are always working along with our thoughts to give us a picture of the object we choose. Because the mind is not just a computer for collecting data but it has desire with knowledge.

This is what is so strange about the world. People can go through life imaging themselves to be something they are not. They can go through a life of worship without focusing on the rite things. This is why worship is in spirit and truth and not in the things themselves. God reverses the importance and usage of the imagination by proclaiming that we believe in things not seen. So for a lot of people our God is the leprechaun.

We are proclaiming that God is all in all and has revealed Himself in His word. He has come in human flesh ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. We believe that Christ is present in heaven but that spiritually He dwells in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. We also believe that we are to live our lives focused on Christ through His Holy Spirit. So people can believe things about what they see in an imaginative sense that is like a leprechaun. We call this creating idols with our imagination.

All of the first things we love are what we cannot see. But the world only sees things in the physical realm. They have notions of spirits and the exercise of human faculties but these are phantoms in how they understand them from their view. How can we be sure that we  believe in the rite things? Theres only one way .. through word and Spirit.

The bible says that we do not need to be taught by any man because we have the indwelling Spirit and He will lead us into all truth. So in a sense one gospel truth defines all of the gospel truths. If i ask you what you believe your statement is one domino that is lined up with the whole row of dominos. And a false statement of faith is like that domino starting to knock down all the other dominos. lol  Because the Spirit reveals truth to us in this way. Through this holistic process of learning we can test the spirits. We have a sense without complete knowledge as we walk in this world that there is something wrong in a given situation. But to convince the world that we are not imaging things is like trying to convince an created hollywood alien that humans are intelligent. lol

I believe in free choice. But i am starting to have some theories that may not be orthodox. I mean i am starting to think that no one choose out of total freedom in a perfect sense. Because the most free choice is when we only want to choose good which is in heaven. But i believe that freedom is understanding all the pressures applied in the culture .. being wise .. and knowing what it is to resist these pressures and to choose with the intent of that understanding. I do not believe that any one chooses without some kind of peer understanding of reality.

So you have this mixture of being human and spiritual. So on the one hand you have rivalry of personalities.. cultural positioning.. and the different sexes.. then you have sarcasm.... an understanding of the uniqueness of an individual... then on the spiritual side you have purpose...enjoyment of Gods gifts.. and self knowledge as you understand who God is. And so all of these expressions align to make you the total of who you are. And how you understand these distinctions gives you a better understanding of free choice. Free choice to me is the idea of transparency. Or its being aligned in your soul because its more than just a succession of choices but its enjoying the freedom through self knowledge.

Along with this is the idea that all our choices are wrong in the sense that they are corrupted. But God has promised to work for our good. Now this is interesting. Because i do not believe that we can make a choice without affecting someone else. So we are talking about doing things that God has designed even tho we do not quite understand how they affect the total purpose of God in how He views all the choices of all men in how they work within the context of other men.

You know i think we have overlooked something here. The scripture always talks about evil and destruction together. I do not think we can reason in terms of a total individual isolation as being reality. This is why we must take into consideration not only the corruption of sin but the destruction of society within the frame work of Gods motive to create people in the full reality of their total expression of their purpose as they are free to add their gifts to society. So there is a sense in which the path we walk is only holistic to us as we roll all of this over to God with the intent to overcome whatever is in our way because He has determined it to be this way if we are to live with a single motive to glorify Him even tho we do not know what that looks like because we cannot think about all the variables at the moment of enjoyment. So freedom is also letting God be God in not being able to figure it out. lol

Joker, I think retrats meant (correct me if I'm wrong restrats) that if Calvinism is true and man has no freewill choice, i.e. only those God choses will be saved, then those that are doomed are in a hopeless condition.  Which was also my point, and why I reject Calvinism on this point.

If your saying that Calvinism does not give man a chance it is not the case. In fact Calvinism takes the focus off of man. It gives a man complete freedom to choose because God causes the man to choose. If in fact choice comes from a cause of desire then where is the cause in an equal choice? Who does something because he doesnt desire to do it and at the same time desires to do it and out of that freedom chooses to do it? That is not freedom but that is big bang happen chance. But Calvinism says that freedom is the exercise of a good desire that gives a man what he actually wants.
And this is exactly what is common in this world. No one chooses something because he does not want it. But rather we choose things based upon the advantage we think it gives us. We choose things because we are pleased to choose them. And even if we are forced to choose them by someones abuse we still choose to do it because we would rather not suffer than suffer.
So this is what is different between free will equilibrium and Calvinism. We focus on the object and we more and more desire that object as the thing we are most pleased with. The free will side focuses on the force that is necessary to produce enough weight to drop the scale of the will to one side. But we know that God has created us with His desire to bring glory to Himself. He did not choose us because He had no motive either way. But He chose to create us because He loves us.

cont....
I agree with you Loren. I used to consider every day the Lords day. But its all semantics. Because the day can replace the idea of God providing us with a morning... we wake up and its a new day... or that is a creation desire that we focus on to keep us from sorrow and being worried about the next day. The bible says that we hope for Gods love in the morning. And so if God creates the beginning of the day then we worship Him as He is. lol

And i understand that the first day of the week is set aside to worship God in his temple but there are times when we experience a kind of exile. So every moment we are to pray...praise God...and long to see God. Because if we divide up our lives between the good times and the times where we struggle then God is not pleased.

If we focus on just one day then we will not think about the high times we had in the past. But we are to look to the Lord and stir up the gifts within us by remembering His goodness to us in those special times. Because God wants to build memories of good times when He provided us with experiences through word and Spirit of His love, joy, peace etc.. that one passion that bubbled up in us and overflowed out of us. God is not going to give us confidence about a specific day of worship but He will give us confidence more and more of drawing near to Him as He is lifted up. And so He uses our sin, our times of exile, our memories, and all of His works in the past to create in us a heart of worship as He provides us with that culture. In this we learn the value of lifting God up because it provides us with new conversion to strengthen us by stirring us up to new heights. I hope the day becomes our finding God rather than focusing on the means themselves.

Read this very carefully because it will save you a lot of grief of thinking all this stuff is automatic.

Psalm 81
"10. I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide. God, by making mention of the deliverance which he had wrought for the people, put a bridle upon those whom he had taken under his protection, by which he might hold them bound to his service; and now he assures them, that with respect to the time to come, he had an abundant supply of all blessings with which to fill and satisfy their desires. The three arguments which he employs to induce the Israelites to adhere exclusively to him, and by which he shows them how wickedly and impiously they would act in turning aside from him, and having recourse to strange gods, are worthy of special attention. The first is, that he is Jehovah. By the word Jehovah, he asserts his claims as God by nature, and declares, that it is beyond the power of man to make new gods. When he says I am Jehovah, the pronoun I is emphatic. The Egyptians, no doubt, pretended to worship the Creator of heaven and of earth; but their contempt of the God of Israel plainly convicted them of falsehood. Whenever men depart from Him, they adorn the idols of their own invention with His spoils, whatever the specious pretexts may be by which they attempt to vindicate themselves. After having affirmed that he is Jehovah, he proves his Godhead from the effect and experience, — from the clear and irrefragable evidence of it in his delivering his people from Egypt, and especially, from his performing at that time the promise which he had made to the fathers. This is his second argument. The power which was displayed on that occasion ought not to have been contemplated apart by itself, since it depended upon the covenant, which long before he had entered into with Abraham. By that deliverance he gave a proof not less of his veracity than of his power, and thus vindicated the praise which was due to him. The third argument is, that he offers himself to the people for the time to come; assuring them, that, provided they continue to persevere in the faith, he will be the same towards the children as the fathers experienced him to be, his goodness being inexhaustible: Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. By the expression open wide, he tacitly condemns the contracted views and desires which obstruct the exercise of his beneficence. “If the people are in penury,” we may suppose him to say, “the blame is to be entirely ascribed to themselves, because their capacity is not large enough to receive the blessings of which they stand in need; or rather, because by their unbelief they reject the blessings which would flow spontaneously upon them.” He not only bids them open their mouth, but he magnifies the abundance of his grace still more highly, by intimating, that however enlarged our desires may be, there will be nothing wanting which is necessary to afford us full satisfaction. Whence it follows, that the reason why God’s blessings drop upon us in a sparing and slender manner is, because our mouth is too narrow; and the reason why others are empty and famished is, because they keep their mouth completely shut. The majority of mankind, either from disgust, or pride, or madness, refuse all the blessings which are offered them from heaven. Others, although they do not altogether reject them, yet with difficulty take in only a few small drops, because their faith is so straitened as to prevent them from receiving an abundant supply. It is a very manifest proof of the depravity of mankind, when they have no desire to know God, in order that they may embrace him, and when they are equally disinclined to rest satisfied with him. He undoubtedly here requires to be worshipped by external service; but he sets no value upon the bare name of Deity — for his majesty does not consist in two or three syllables. I love that one. lol He rather looks to what the name imports, and is solicitous that our hope may not be withdrawn from him to other objects This is what Ive been saying about not letting the cart go before the horse in the means... I love you John Calvin. , or that the praise of righteousness, salvation, and all blessings, may not be transferred from him to another. In calling himself by the name Jehovah, he claims Godhead exclusively to himself, on the ground that he possesses a plenitude of all blessings with which to satisfy and fill us." John Calvin... From the master himself. lol

Yes Willis... religion is the only real power that man possesses. The funny thing is that atheist are religious too. lol The point is that if we could live outside of what we think and believe than we would be dead. lol  So the only truth is what God has revealed and man creates a god by reinterpreting it.

Ive always said that revealed truth does not focus on one small thing or an event but it makes us step back and look at the big picture. Because Gods revealed truth is from His perspective and not ours. But false religion seeks to redefine who God is and thus lower God. Thats the problem with man is not focusing on all that God has said.. not coming to the scripture wanting to be taught by God but with preconceived ideas.

This is why the bible distinguishes the fear of God from the wisdom of man. In order to understand truth we must know God as who God is as He has revealed. That is getting knowledge in the fear of God. But mans first approach to knowledge is through his own experience. Man is born to avoid thinking about God. And the more he asserts his own position without a clear understanding of revealed truth the more he seeks to devise evil. The natural man who communicates is said to have trouble under his tongue. Most people do not see the potential danger in a godless man.

A godless man is a religious man. He is no different than a self righteous man. Both have trouble under their tongues. You know that every man who does not have the Spirit of God cannot control his own tongue. Its not because he is necessarily evil but its because his motives for success are from his desire to defy God and be his own god. We do not need to make this difficult. Men born in sin walk in a pathway of destruction , they gain power through money and they use their money to destroy others. Just ask yourself? Do i enjoy destroying others or do i seek to defend the helpless and the poor? Do i sit back and watch others suffer when i have the ability to help them? Do i use my power and money without a thought of God and  His grace? The state of sin is a state in which man cannot avoid using others to advance his own agenda.

And thats the danger with religion. You can use the language just like political language or psychological language etc. You can build a kingdom of control through religious language. This is why its dangerous to use all of these biblical terms outside of Christ alone through faith alone by grace alone.

This is what is funny about the world. People are always talking about playing by the rules. But the rules are always deceptive. Now that poor person who comes to bleed his troubles to this religious man is a man who needs something. The human race is geared toward profiting on others. Need is something that shows weakness and ugliness. Thats why you see the person who is smart and understands playing by the rules wants first to be rich and be in the position of independence. The world is hostile to the person who is poor.

Then you get a rich man to dump his troubles to this priest while offering 3000 dollars for the religious mans troubles. Automatically the rich mans sins are not only forgiven but they are forgotten as well as enjoying a completely new reputation. lol This is just built in to the system of man , that he will not really treat men like they are created by God.

This is exactly why these religious things are political. Man by nature is self serving and seeks to gain friends by being successful. And the bible says that a poor man does not have many friends. It acknowledges his plight of this world and how the pressure is always the hidden reason for so much trouble. And so there is no real remedy unless there is a complete salvation. There is offered a real deliverance. That deliverance that crosses all barriers and makes a man completely free in himself so that he does not need to validate himself under the pressure of this world. He not only is free but he can walk against the tide.

cont...

I really believe there is a veil that keeps us from looking up from this earth to the sky to see God on His throne. Instead we see darkness and mystery. So we must live by faith and the word. The scroll is Gods judgements upon this earth and His great power through these weather patterns that are dangerous. That evidence of Gods word being carried out upon sin and death. The fierce winds , dangerous lightening, dark clouds, and mysterious stars with the dark backdrop are all going to be replaced by the new heavens and earth.
God is going to roll back the veil. And renew the earth. I have been dreaming about looking up in the from the new earth and seeing glory. The great throne of God visible from the earth. The veil will no longer hide that glory!! Our conditions on this earth will be to our greatest benefit and experience. We will have access to heaven and earth. Can you imagine looking up into the third heaven from the new earth and seeing this magnificent view of the that glory and clear colors of Gods throne. The art work of God will no longer be hidden.

You know that tropical depressions have a huge influence on my view of God. I was in hurricane Andrew. And i am presently experiencing Debby. I memorized Psalm 29 years before Hurricane Andrew hit Miami. And i had always wondered exactly what that experience of those weather conditions would be like. And the voice of the Lord in my young years was mixed with so much of my physical strength as i look back. I would meditate for 4 hours and go into work feeling like i could do a weeks work in one day. And i remember on the way home from work many days boasting in this voice of the Lord. As i experience this supernatural power and influence that absolutely flowed through me.

But it became apparent to me on the night that Andrew was over us that the voice of God was much more mysterious and dangerous. And i remember the house we were in had this huge banyan tree about 5 feet from the house. Well as soon as the gale winds began to move in a circular motion the tree actually fell on the corner of the house and it was so big that it shook the house and it covered the whole roof. Well the hurricane force winds had not even began and the house had already been weakened by this tree. So i began to meditate on this Psalm.

I remember being up all nite on my knees meditating on this Psalm. I was feeling very afraid and the storm was very loud. I remember as i had my eyes closed hearing this breathing. This is what is so strange about a very intense hurricane . The storm sounded like someone breathing. It would kind of inhale and then exhale. And every time it would breath out the wind pressure would get more intense. And to this day i hear the storm breathing.

This breathing is very mysterious to me. Its very frightening. Ive always thought that this voice does this in our lives in a silent way. As we experience the voice of God .. sometimes our lives are very quite and we are wondering if God is still breathing. And then we begin to feel the pressure as He exhales in our lives. I remember going from a relaxing moment in the storm only to know that the next exhale could blow the house down. So it was like one moment we are relaxed and the next moment we give way to the mystery of that power that would engulf us.

But what did all of this do in the end?The next nite you could hear a pin drop. There was not even the buzz of the electrical sounds. As i meditated on that Psalm wanting to experience it fully i realized that our souls are like this. They need to have the winds of the word and Spirit blow over us . We need to hear the voice of God. And just like that nite after the hurricane where there was absolute silence in the dark. I feel fortunate to remember that silence where i experienced the power of God to be able to silence the whole city so that His voice could be clear and more powerful than the storm. So there is a rest for our souls that is not normal.

Let me ask you something. Have you ever heard God breathing in your life? Or is God impersonal to you? When you look back at your life do you feel sense the times when God was blowing loud in your souls? You were shaken by that power? And can you remember feeling the flow of power in your body? Or has God always been silent? Do you feel dismayed at the silence of God? Are you so wanting for God to breath in you that you seek Him until you experience this great mystery of His power? God breaths upon us by His Spirit. He floods our souls with joy and peace. Have you ever felt a seeking that you would not let God go until He filled you full? This is the great mystery of godliness.

The personality of an alcoholic God is that He subjects men to violence in order to get them to repent. Or God reacts to men according to their resistance. So God is very hard to people who are addicted to sin and proves to them that He will respond with punishment. The alcoholic God is powerless to love someone in order for them to change. Because He lives by the principle that He will respond with force to get the response He wants.

But God is unchangeable. God is not subject to the changes of men. Instead God acts according to His nature and goodness. God also acts according to His desire. So we cannot dogmatically say that God only acts based upon His work through Christ by a will that does not come through a relationship. In other words God is not simply redeeming people because He wants to save sinners. But God actually deals with sinners according to their weakness. God also heals people.

God is not just a fence enforcer. You know the greek idea of leadership. They think they are given authority to enforce all of the standards. And they go into meetings like business meetings. And they talk about people like they are arbitrators of these nt fences. Most of this is from the tendency to do things without the motive to act for the glory of God. And so they are basically a social club that keeps the funds protected.

But we see in the ot that God actually condescended to man in the understanding that man is dust. So God desires to meet man at his weakness. And we say that this Shepherd relationship is a transference of all that man needs by Gods desire of love. If the relationship was only based upon God offering forgiveness .. one sin for a free pardon then God is like the clock maker. He only gets involved when the command has been violated. And this is exactly why we believe that God loves by His desire to love. Because He is responsible for our welfare not just our sin. lol

Why is man so hard heart ed and abusive? Because God does not allow a man authority outside of His absolute rite to be the King of the earth. And so Gods authority presupposes that the dangers in this world to individuals are indirect. Abuse comes from abusive leaders. Gods warnings are always from the top down. Because He deals with men through redemption in an individual relationship that is foreseen in the society of men.

The covenant of grace is Gods free favor to sinners. And when we talk about the commands we are always talking about it in the context of working out our own salvation because God works in you. So its all of God and He alone gets the praise. But if we start to say ... i love your law because it makes me good then the commands stand over us as a curse. But the Psalmist in approaching God always concludes when Gods law is before him that he confesses his total dependence upon God for acceptance.

Even when the Psalmist is struggling with sin its not always trying to please God by our reaction to sin. Its not focused on how sorry we are . But its going on to the meat of the relationship. If God has promised to not hold our sins against us then we stand not as if God was a drunk and His reaction would sometimes be violent or abusive. But we do not hold our pain against God because of His promise to always work for our good. So we do not dwell in the cursed dispositions of our former self. But if we do not think correctly then we waste a lot of time thinking something about God that is not correct . And if we do not give attention to the full free grace that is in the covenant then we teach others false dispositions about covenant faithfulness.

And so this whole life we are to transform our minds so that we would not accuse God of being demanding and and not giving more than we deserve. Because the problem with us is not that we struggle with sin but we do not really accept that God is as good as He promised and that since He is good then His grace alone is enough to give us full acceptance. Now.. ive been writing for a long time about his reasoning. And it would be wise to go and read some of this.

Any one who believes in equilibrium free will also believes that God judges men either saved or unsaved by their actions in themselves. Ive even heard leaders say that God will judge a person according to their actions. And there is another group who plays in the middle. These are the two line theologians. They say that we enter salvation by grace but then we do it with our strength. And they say because justification does not address sanctification then in our sanctification we are judged according to our works.

The first group if they were honest would conclude that a person would lose his salvation since he must act to keep it. The second group .. those who play fast and lose with ot scripture offer it for free and then take it back. But we know that God comes through a grace covenant which is a guarantee of our redemption.

How does this work? Just look at the ot and what distinguished a self righteous king from Gods King. The self righteous leaders say that they act apart from God and according to their actions they are able to curse other men. I say this because the law does not offer us a judgement between two equal gods. lol Either your cursed or your blessed.

So here is what we are saying . There is no man who can claim that he is just before God. If God judges us according to our actions then "who could stand?" Now this is a direct assertion that stands on its own. It is the word of God that we swear by. So what we are saying is that our only assurance is because of Gods promise to save us and keep us. So salvation outside of this covenant frame work is described in these two positions i asserted.

But if you look there is no where in the worship book that a king can say that he has established authority that is righteous. Now im looking you rite in your face. I will swear by this. God looks down on all human authority and finds them wanting. The only righteous establishment on this earth is through a grace covenant!!! Now listen to me ..you say that your authority is righteous and you basically according to God claim to be equal with God!!Who wants to stand as the rich man who approached Christ on his assessment of his leadership and was asking for better principles? lol So Christ says "so you think your equal with my authority? Cursed are you my friend. Go into everlasting punishment!"Leaders who assert this are basically saying "Will you judge me according to the generation that was under my watch?" I seriously laugh at this gnosticism.  And so all men must be silenced before God because the only righteousness that is praise worthy is that which comes down out of heaven. Can we swear by this?  "Those who know Your name will praise You."

I think we need to deal with this on an intellectual level rather than an emotional one. And we must discern about truth. I mean it could be a situation where its not a good fit. But no one wants to take the blame in being talked about as not getting along. But fundamentally whatever is false about the covenant communication is going to lead to wrong behavior. This is why our nation is the worse because there are very few leaders who really believe that God is in the heavens like God says He is.

Should it be a perfect situation?.. Obviously not.  But its not hard to hold some very important doctrines by communicating them correctly. The hard part is knowing how to fit in and being of value in the world. I mean one of the things i hear today is how our generation is living in imagination as if we do not have a history of work and family. lol Again this is strictly about covenant faithfulness in the experience and fellowship.

Evolution has had a big impact on creating a gospel that is divided. And there was two distinct sides of religious orthodoxy prior to the dominate teaching of evolution. But now it no longer matters what a person says about God but what a person does in society. And evolution has created the principled man who is impersonal. So society is not longer obligated to receive their advice in the words of God and His Spirit but through the board rooms and deal rooms of the powerful. One is very simple and the other is a complicated web of deceit and manipulation in the form of universal principles of success.

But God has made the transference of truth to only be what He has said. And so the battle is between those who focus on what God says so much that it becomes the way they speak and lead as opposed to those who do not think of God and refuse to receive divine wisdom as the reality of their view of the world. This is why a God view always focuses on causes and mans system always focuses on personal success through his principles.

And so we have a word that comes through Gods prophetic utterance as opposed to a word that comes through Satans prophecies. Because the god of this world is opposed to all that God says. One is the blessed way and the other is a cursed way. One leads to life and happiness and the other leads to misery , selfishness and a life of problems. Just look at the dept this wise world is in because of this worldly wisdom. God says that He will in a secret move.. with His unseen hand make mans wisdom to be foolish. And at the same time the powerful will hold onto something like water where in reality there is nothing real about their personal wealth. God actually takes the foolish things of this world and makes them wise. lol

So we see that there is nothing equal about mans devising success and God determining who will rise and who will fall. Why has God made it so that man cannot succeed outside of revealed truth? Because the causes of mans plans comes from an evil heart. So that all of his desires are evil continually. Man says in his heart there is no God. And so because man will not have God in all of his thoughts he actually thinks that his success is because he is so wise. But because God determines who will rise and who will fall He has said that a man who is a self made man works to destroy through his own plans ... himself. Why because God has made man a social creature. He cannot make plans without affecting someone else. So God says you either do it according to my word or you devise schemes against society.

How does man naturally react to this kind of authority? He laughs at God and says in his heart.. "God is not watching." There is no judge. What does God do? He increases the reasons for man to get more judgement. God either blesses the man who digs a bigger and deeper grave .. that being greater judgement or God brings the curses of the law to bare. Now when you believe what God says this is what you think about when you view this world. You can either believe in phantoms and imaginations or you can have God in all your thoughts.

I see there is some danger here. I think your worry is very important. Are you burdened enough be depressed? The question is can you handle this move and not suffer? Because marriage really is both partners agreeing about these big moves. Its kind of like a garden where you feed it good healthy support and it flourishes.
I think there is a difference between having a fight because you dont have the strength to do it and fighting about where your gonna live because of your position being upheld. We always want to save the relationship without making things so difficult that it fundamentally changes it for the worse. So this one move could lead to another move if your worse off. I guess as an experiment it would be ok. Maybe you could visit for a year and see what its like or something. That would be expensive tho. But any move should be slow because of the danger.

I think people see this as an emotional issue. But this is black and white. I mean a person can have friends in the world that are closer then church relationships. A lot of people go to church for the wrong reasons. They go to make friends. They may think that having a friend outside of the church that is a better relationship is sinful. But the church has one function. Its to glorify God by fanning the flame of the sovereign Spirit. And so a lot of this is just social club religion. But we really are talking about a marriage of two individuals. And fortunately i married in real life terms a woman who believes in Calvinism. This is not rocket science.

I am not talking about my personal life but just discussing these things for other people to understand if they are going through miss understandings and judgmental accusations. But this is very simple. Relationships are not to validate belief but they are secondary. The most important thing is being passionate about the universal principle of glorying God by enjoying Him forever. So the question is who is this God? And by that answer comes discord or unity.lol No one is to blame thats just the facts.

Because we have so much of this disconnect to the goal of our faith then we presuppose by our experience. You know that all of this is simply the art of communication. Its a distinct way of speaking that funnels every thing we call unity into one purpose. And that is to all be Calvinist who are passionate about glorifying God. The problem is that we are not conservative enough. And that is the same as being divided in a marriage.

Every man over his life practices his religion fervently. So all of the covenants that he takes part in are life and death issues. This is why we are held accountable for the general welfare of the poor. Because within the covenant structure is providing for people who cannot raise a family on their income. If God refused to be good to the poor then the church would no longer influence society. Just like you see in England.

And this one principle is over all the other principles since we are to treat the least of these with more honor. We are not trying to develop a religion of destruction but we are to seek to uphold those who are struggling. This is why adultery is so evil because it is an example of covenant unfaithfulness. When you swear to uphold the confession an you do not accept the fundamental obligations to speak in that way in the doctrines of grace then you are just like a harlot. Or your in danger of harlotry. Because anyone can use their power to destroy these obligations by arguing their position through economy. The point of upholding the poor is so that you are of one mind. Any one who has sworn to be faithful to the doctrines of grace and seeks to undermine that message is a traitor to the unity of the confession.

As i have been saying that there is no such thing as going in a direction without understanding grace. Any one who claims faithfulness and yet does not believe in the doctrines of grace is going in their own direction. Or taking a side road to reform. And this is why we swear by our standards. Because we will be held responsible in eternity for not upholding them.

Now ive discussed this with many people and there presently is no one who believes in the fundamental doctrines of grace. I mean at this present time who have written here. But i can count on my fingers the people who have been faithful over the years. I swear by the doctrines of grace and its been all free in my relationships over the years. I do not validate anyone.. i simply am doing what i am suppose to do.

poppy: "Facts" now arrive through advertisement based entertainment and through politically based programing like Al Gore's global warming documentaries.

Public opinion can be swayed, duped, fooled, and fouled.
Truth is true nomatter how many are for it or agin it."

K_k:  I agree.  And Jesus told us the real truth will not be very popular.  Which is why so many of the early church were put to death for speaking it so boldly.

I've heard people say that "the truth will set you free, yes, but it will hurt a lot first".  In my experience the only reason it seems that way is because we have an innate tendency to resist God's truth.

The truth itself doesn't really hurt, it is our resistance to it that causes pain.  If we embrace it, we save ourselves a lot of hurt. No resistance to truth = no pain caused by it.

Anyone who thinks correctly grows up in the Lord to be the example rather than use initial threats to get compliance. But at the same time no one who understands grace believes in reversing the hard facts to be passive after they begin to show a path of destruction in their wake. This is why the world is without leaders because they step out of the way of being in between the wolves and refuse to experience pain for others. And so they remain in the infant stage all their lives while exposing the weak to the wolves.
What i have been discussing here is not just an exercise of intellectual stimulation but its going in a way of life and avoiding death. In distinguishing between the real voices of grace and the counterfeit is our safety. Some people like to paint it as being self protective and not willing to expose the truth. But their duel belief is bad from both ends of the christian experience. The things they believe will happen in their promises is what the the weakness they spread in reality. You cannot redefine historical grace and end up with healing.

Have any of you folks ever just walked up to a complete stranger and shared the gospel with them? I watch some videos on YouTube by "The Way of the Master" group that trains people how to do that and it's pretty intimidating. Not sure if I could do that without flubbing it up. So afraid they will ask me a question that I can't answer and it will make the validity of what I am saying sound questionable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVco8t-R8KU

Here is a good commentary on witnessing LV.

It is somewhat long but an easy read with good pointers on "how to" and "how not to" preach the Gospel.

http://www.reclaimingthemind.org/blog/2010/03/do-we-need-to-tell-people-the-bad-news-before-the-good-news/

As far as I'm concerned though, the author could have left off at the end Jonathan Edwards' self absorbed musings on what a rotten sinner he thought he was.

b2

b2 i kind of agree with you. I really dont like self fulfilling prophecies. I know Edwards made a big mistake in his dieing early. But i can understand the mentality of being subject to a kind of mysticism because of the lack on knowledge of the human body. I think we are subject to a certain amount of deceitfulness in the environment of education. And anyone can know something of religion without experiencing it in this day to day wisdom. I think there was a tendency to view sin as a kind of mystical power. Its so easy for us to become worm theologians.

There are physical changes that we go through in passing the years of this life. The more we advance the weaker we become. And so we tend to think in terms of life and death in the simplest of things. This is why when the world is turned upside down the old are no longer appreciated for their life experience. Because the world becomes violent and it becomes a struggle with killing off all the weakness. I cant tell you how evil it is to believe that life is so long that your not moving in that rate of weakness who think they will be strong enough to avoid the same fate. lol This is why the Psalmist saw life as fighting with succumbing to the image that the world tries to mold us in.

I hope the young will learn the art of being transparent because when we are weak He is more powerful to make us to be feared. lol And really life is about turning yourself upside down and going from a physical confidence to a mental and spiritual confidence. Because the young think the wrong things about the importance of life and its so easy to find yourself in grief that cannot be managed in the weak years. Let me say that anyone who begins to see life in real terms knows that the mind is the only valuable thing we have for the long haul. And its the path of thinking that we can endure the arrows of the wicked in this world.

Evolution has brought us to fight with this terrible philosophy that thinking is not as important than doing. But if you do not prepare for being weak and training your mind then life will become unbearable as the world attacks weakness.

Kks god is kind of like a gas in which we become successful when it surrounds us. And yet the bible is a book that describes sovereign grace given to men through the actual will of a Person. What confidence do we have in believing in mystical powers when we can claim authority by a sovereign God whos will cannot be thwarted? All of our confidence is in the actual word of deliverance of the eternal unchanging word of God. We do not say give me more trouble so i can be healed but we say speak Lord for your servant is listening! We say may i overcome through your word of deliverance that is spoken in the most personal way through a will that cannot be overcome. Speak it loud and clear Most High God so that i know you are God!!
