Kiddo, your use of the scriptures I cited show that you are not following the argument I am making.
The
honorable Madame Crow-lady stated that all humankind, justified and
unjustified alike, contains an essense which is by nature indestructable
- a "soul" or a "spirit". I respectfully disagree, as I know you do
also. My rationale is this: According to Paul, Peter, Jesus, et. al,
our hope is for Resurrection from the dead. If we are already immortal,
why should the Christian hope for Resurrection? "For who hopes for
what he already has?" Furthermore the Gnostics among us would argue
that life as a disembodied intelligence would be superior to life as a
corporeal entity, so resurrection is a step down on the spiritual
ladder, so to speak. But if there is no "immortal soul", if "dead"
means "DEAD", then Resurrection is indeed something to hope for.
Citing
John 5:29, Rev 20:12, Christ will resurrect all Humankind, and we will
ALL give account to Him for the moral choices we have made in this life.
And I understand that Christ will reward each "according to their
deeds". There will be rewards and punishments; let no one have any
illusions on that score. But if some would claim that those who rise to
judgement and condemnation are given imperishable spriritual bodies
(reference 1 Corinthians 15:35-54) like those who rise to life so that
they can be tortured forever, I think the "second death" and
"destruction" and "perish" references show them to be quite mistaken.
The
gospel is a gospel of God. It was in God from all eternity. So the only
one worthy of praise is God. But the gospel of God is a covenant that
God made with His chosen ones. Not all the world received the oracles of
God. These oracles are mainly to enlighten Gods elect. The law of the
Lord revives the soul... the statutes are trust worthy .. making wise
the simple... the commands are radiant giving light to the eyes and the
fear if pure enduring forever! So we have this promise the the God of
the covenant will act through this agreement to establish His people
with a kind of redeeming back bone. This is why you dont let a novice
lead people because they have no experience in these things and they
dont have a back bone.
These rewards in this covenant language
are that God will provide.... He will defend us... He will love us
alone... and He will deliver us from the day of trouble. How does God do
this? How does He display all of these rewards to us? By His kindness
extended to us through His unfailing love. So our argument to God for
these rewards are not from our acceptance with Him but from His promises
to perform these things by His display of His faithfulness out of His
contract that He would do this.
In other words we are always going
back to the bases for our acceptance with God when we come to Him or we
think of our grief ... pain... guilt... shame... and fear. We are always
basing all of this reward motif on Gods kindness extended to us through
Christ.
This means that in the gospel we are only promised to
end the whole of our lives to receive rewards. Now i am telling you how
to think biblically so its up to you to accept this. You will work for
this gracious God because you know your going to get it either way. But
our rewards are what Christ has obtained in His incarnation and
ascension to the rite hand of God. The reason it is this way is because
we are in Christ who had all things given to Him. So we receive whatever
Christ obtained! Now this is beyond our pay scale! God promises that He
will lift us up out of our miry pit and put a new set of clothes on
us.. .give us a new song in our hearts.. and do more than we could ask
or think.
But all of this comes to us from the rite hand of the
Father. It comes through divine providence. We have a day of battle
because the rite hand of God is His taking back what was obtained
through false scales. He actually takes the monies from the wicked and
gives them to His children! Listen .. this whole reward thing is a
future promise but it is for ours to ask rite now! We get grace from the
battle ready rite hand of God! It comes in different parts of our
lives. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Apprehend His
promises... every day sue for the price. Bring it before God every day
and wait in expectation... He will not disappoint. Bring up the stolen
monies and require it upon their heads. Its based upon neglect not
necessarily objective scales.... outside of the true elect. So if we
are thinking about rewards in a covenant agreement all the promises are
yea and amen in Christ!
