Ps 44 20 If we had forgotten the name of our God
or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
21 would not God have discovered it,
since he knows the secrets of the heart?
22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
The Psalmist is teaching that we saved by Gods decree. 3 It was not by their sword that they won the land,nor did their arm bring them victory;it was your right hand, your arm,
and the light of your face, for you loved them." Not only do we confess when we look back at our salvation that it was Gods work but we are also looking in the future to be completely saved from all opposition. So the Psalmist is teaching that salvation is a completed work but we are experiencing one salvation after another until we go into our eternal rest. 6 I do not trust in my bow,my sword does not bring me victory;
7 but you give us victory over our enemies,you put our adversaries to shame.
When we are saved all of our emotional, spiritual and physical pain rise up at different times like an army that we face in a battle that must be overcome. The Apostle teaches when we are saved we become new creatures in Christ. Salvation is being brought back to life from state of spiritual death. So salvation is being implanted with new life in the same way that we see the trees go into a dormant state in the winter and come back to life in the spring. We see the results of Gods work in life coming out of death. Gods reasons for this cycle are given in His law, decrees, curses, statutes, and promises. The Psalmist says that God speaks all things into existence. The control of God over all things is reasonable. This is why God puts the law,decrees etc in pronouncements. Because salvation is a pronouncement of blessing upon His elect. All of the experiences in our lives are reasonably pronounced by God because they are spoken in the context of reality in the law, decrees etc.
God has revealed the law , decrees etc to us. The Psalmist describes the law , decrees etc as a word of salvation. So the life of salvation is longing for the word of salvation until we are delivered. Deliverance is Gods reasonable work through His law, decrees etc in delivering us from the corruption that always exist but rises up as emotional, physical and spiritual pain when we go through trials. 11 You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations.12 You sold your people for a pittance,gaining nothing from their sale.
When we are saved we go from a cursed life to a life of blessing. Now listen, if the blessing did not have any relationship to this world then there would be no promise of rewards in our eternal state. So the people and the things of this world are not intrinsically evil. The contrast in the Psalms is between the complete darkness of the wicked and new creative world of the righteous.
Salvation is being delivered from the judgement of the wicked.When we are saved we are placed in the kingdom of God. This kingdom is more than a future perfect eternal place. But the kingdom is the justification of Gods people who are seen as being perfect in a perfect spiritual world. But the new kingdom is tied to this corrupted world. All our earthly possessions are blessings of the kingdom. You see the reason the world is under judgement is because they are required to meet the demands of the law in their control over themselves and their possessions But Gods elect are blessed with the gifts that Christ obtained in His ascension. These gifts are all that we possess in this life. If the possessions were not our earthly ones then Christ death and resurrection would be mystical.
The difference between how we are related to the possessions of this world and the wicked are that we have been given control over our using them and enjoying them for Gods glory. We control our relationship to men and possessions through the law, covenants etc. Our control and enjoyment of the possessions give us the motives to speak the recreative pronouncements of God in order to become like Christ who possesses all things. The elect are caught in the judgement in this world that is poured upon the wicked. We no longer are under the control of the curse. 17 All this happened to us,though we had not forgotten you or been false to your covenant.18 Our hearts had not turned back;
our feet had not strayed from your path.
