When we are delivered we receive all that Christ has obtained. We no longer live on the ethical principle of works. Before we were redeemed, we lived by fulfilling our responsibilities. But the apostle is saying that our salvation was more than providing the ability to act according to the law. This is more radical than that moral philosophy. He is essentially saying you are no longer your old identity. You are becoming someone else. This is why he teaches the Christian community regards each other with an eternal view. Our apparent failures and reasonable successes are not the primary focus. We look at the person as complete by understanding their unique potential by overlooking what they were like in their former days.
