In the Psalms the voice of the flesh is violence. There was no need for violence before the fall because there was no fear, sorrow, dread, or corruption. Perfect love cast out fear..or the perfect dependence upon God is reciprocal love. To be violent is to express your desires as your own god. But to be free is to express Gods word from His view of the created person or thing. Gods perfect word is the complete unity of the working of all thing as He speaks them into existence. God creates and recreates all things by His perfect word.

When our experience is united with Gods description of the working of all things we experience mystery. Mystery is dwelling in Gods attributes, ie His love, kindness, gentleness,...His patience long suffering and power...this is what the Psalms describe as Gods rest. , as He recreates our world by His perfect word.  We are to be harmless as doves.

When we react to our circumstances in the flesh we react in anger. Anger is simply a reaction from something that was not in us originally. It is a desire to set our circumstances straight through our own effort. When we allow anger to prosper it is like filling up a cup with the disposition of the flesh..fear, sorrow, rage, jealousy etc. Because we do not apply Gods love through His word we grow to enjoy the communication of the flesh because the anger is the fertile ground for these dispositions.

But we should be overflowing with Gods love and grace. We should feel Gods love rising up in us like a spring of water. Some people think that the way to have Gods love welling up in us is to just focus on all the good things in salvation. But to know Gods love we must subdue the earth. We must develop a way to consume the anger before it gets to our actions. We must know  the Christ who has all things placed under His feet. I will explain this further.
