18 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you
show yourself blameless, 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to
the crooked you show yourself shrewd. 27 You save the humble but bring
low those whose eyes are haughty. The Psalms pronounce the mirror of Gods attributes. We naturally desire to trade the bad with
the good in order to be acceptable to God. You would think that he is
saying if we are blameless then God shows Himself as blameless. But if
you notice that He puts this into context by the contrast between the humble person and the arrogant man. A humble person does not
claim that God is dependent upon his own purity as proof that he is
pure. Thats how an arrogant person reasons. We are humble because we
depend upon Gods pronouncements as the mirror of His works of faithfulness , purity etc. Instead of replacing the negative with the
positive we are incorporating Gods purity , faithfulness etc in
pronouncing the axioms.
